New GSN Series Features Own League of Extreme Teams in Eight-Week Tournament - Series Premieres Tuesday, June 15 at 10 PM

'Dream Job's' Zach Selwyn Serves as Color Commentator, Comedian Bil Dwyer as Play-By-Play Announcer and Jerri Manthey of 'The Surreal Life' as Courtside Line Reporter
Coca-Cola(C) Signs On as First-Time Sponsor for the Network

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Bullies and jocks loved it. Nerds and frail little girls hated it. Well, hike up your tube socks and put that safety strap on your glasses because Dodgeball is back and this time, it's EXTREME! GSN, the network for games, has completed production on original series EXTREME DODGEBALL, a tongue-in-cheek look at the sport where the battle between GSN's own league of eight teams of five players is waged in a hockey style arena in front of a live audience. The series is sponsored by Coca-Cola?, which is a first-time advertiser on the network.

Premiering on Tuesday, June 15 at 10 PM ET/PT, the eight-episode series consists of four regular season episodes (each episode features 3-6 games) followed by two playoff episodes (two games each episode), a semi-finals episode featuring two games and a championship episode where the two best teams in the league battle it out for $10,000. Comedian Bil Dwyer ("Battlebots") will call the action as play-by-play announcer, Zach Selwyn (ESPN's "Dream Job") will serves as color commentator and Jerri Manthey ("The Surreal Life") will contribute reports from the side lines.

The eight EXTREME DODGEBALL teams consist of five players each. Teams include: "Armed Response" (real life security guards); "Curves of Steel" (four physically fit women and one man in swimsuits); "SBD Mimes" ('Silent But Deadly;' actual trained mimes); "Certified Public Assassins" (CPAs); "The Sumo Storm" (Sumo wrestlers including one woman); "Stallion Battalion" (horse racing jockeys); "Ink Inc." (hard-core tattoo players); and the "Barbell Mafia" (power weightlifters). Each team will wear their job-related attire as they develop and execute extreme strategies to annihilate their opponents

As play-by-play announcer, Bil Dwyer will cover all technical aspects of the battles, from throw-to-kill ratios to backcourt strategies. Zach Selwyn will track every glorious dive, dodge and headshot. Together they will compare their own fourth-grade experiences to the game high above the arena in the EXTREME DODGEBALL skybox. Courtside will be Jerri Manthey who will interview players and fans.

EXTREME DODGEBALL will include elements unique to the series such as the "Last Man Standing" option by which the last person on a team can hit a target and re-activate all of their eliminated team members. Also included is the "Dead Man Walking" rule where one player on each team becomes the player to protect, for if that player is hit, the other team will automatically win. The game will also have other novel rules such as 2-minute games in a best of three match. The ball size will also be a factor as in the first game two small balls will be used and in the second game two small balls and one giant ball will be used. The third game is Dead Man Walking. Players can also return to the game in the order they were eliminated if its team catches a ball.

EXTREME DODGEBALL is executive produced by Mark Cronin and James Rowley of Mindless Entertainment, who also produced two other series for GSN, CRAM and WHO WANTS TO BE GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA? THE DEBATING GAME. Taped in front of a live audience on April 17 and 18, the series features eight teams of five players each. The eight-episode series will look at the sport with instant replay, highlights and player interviews, and consist of four regular season games, followed by a playoff game and ultimate championship for $10,000.

Mark Cronin's Mindless Entertainment has several other series in production including the hit "Surreal Life 3" for VH-1, "Life Is Too Short," an NBC half-hour reality comedy pilot starring two-foot-eight actor Verne Troyer and his surrogate family, and the IFC eight-part series "Ultimate Film Fanatic," a competition show in search of the nation's biggest film buff premiering this July.

GSN, the Network for Games, is the only U.S. television network dedicated to game-related programming and interactive game playing. The network features game shows, reality series, documentaries, video game programs and casino games. As the industry leader in interactivity, GSN features 84 hours per week of interactive programming, which allows viewers a chance to win prizes by playing along with GSN's televised games via gsn.com. Reaching 54 million Nielsen homes, GSN is distributed in the U.S. through all major cable systems and satellite providers. The network is jointly owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Liberty Media Corporation. For further media information, visit GSN's press website at corp.gsn.com.

    Red face

I feel for ya AOD. I'm at the age where virtually all of my parents, in-laws, aunts, uncles and who ever is left of my grands are old and ailing from something. My wife & I are getting pretty close to a "Funeral of the Week" situation. We just missed one for an my wife's uncle last week because we were out of town.

btw-My cranky grandmother is 95 and will probably outlive us all.

I was thinking that the ratings for this debocle was going to be very low, but with teams like that it might be funny as hell to watch....

I don't think any of the channels I have will show it, too bad.

It sounds funny, kind of like when there was the show with the two teams in roller skate with rock shows at the half
